Semi-Annual Symposium Series

A  number of the EWOC chapters have collaborated on a semi-annual symposium series with the goal of providing a space and creating a venue where graduate students and postdocs can present their research and gain feedback and where academic/industry professionals can offer informal mentoring. EWOC Midwest Chapter

The EWOC Midwest Chapter was established in 2021 with the support of EWOC and the NorCal, SoCal and Boston Chapters of EWOC. Aligned with the EWOC vision, the purpose of the MidWest Chapter is to facilitate the building of networking relationships, create mentorship opportunities, and promote professional development within the Midwest region. Our goal is to connect women and their allies and enable the formation of a network that will add diversity and inclusion to our scientific community, both in industry and academia. It is our hope to provide a supportive atmosphere that will help augment the participation of women in the field of organic chemistry. Our chapter is open to all who share in the same vision regardless of race, gender or identity.

EWOC NorCal Chapter

The EWOC NorCal Chapter was established in 2021, to stand alongside the existing SoCal, Boston, and UK chapters. Aligned with the EWOC vision and mission, the NorCal Chapter aims to foster and support women in chemistry and their allies in the biotech hub of the Northern California region. We will build networks and connect women from academia, industry, and other organizations in the local area through workshops and (tele)conferences. It is our sincere hope that through our network, more aspiring women will become accomplished scientists and, together, we will increase the diversity of our workforce to accelerate the advancement of science to the benefit of our world.

EWOC SoCal Chapter

The EWOC SoCal Chapter was established at the end of 2020, after the success of the national EWOC conferences and formation of the EWOC Boston Chapter. Aligned with the EWOC mission, the SoCal Chapter aims to build a supportive network and connect women in chemistry and their allies in the widespread Southern California region. We want to foster a supportive, diverse, and inclusive community for chemistry students as well as industry and academic professionals in the local area. Together, we hope to help each other advance professionally and by doing so improve recruitment and retainment of women in the field, regardless of gender or any other protected characteristic.

We are aiming to host a kick off networking event in Q1 of 2021!

EWOC Houston Chapter

The EWOC Houston Chapter was established in the fall of 2021 with the support of EWOC, ACS Greater Houston Section, and ACS Brazosport.  Aligned with the EWOC mission to foster and support women and minorities in chemistry, the Houston Chapter aims to connect chemists in the Gulf Coast and surrounding areas.  With a mix of virtual and real activities, we meet once a month to build an inclusive, supportive community.  We hope to broaden and deepen our networks and help each other achieve our full potential as successful, well-rounded chemists.  Everyone is welcome to join in on the fun.

With sufficient interest, we would love to expand and unite all of Texas.

EWOC Boston Chapter

An EWOC chapter was established in Boston in 2019 to complement the national EWOC effort. The group held their first networking event in October 2019, with Nobel Laureate Robert H. Grubbs and EWOC Steering Committee member Rebecca Ruck in attendance. A second event in January 2020 attracted 37 attendees from a variety of work environments, with 31% returning from the 1st event; Margaret Chu-Moyer was their special guest.

Empowering Women in Organic Chemistry - Europe

Following the success of EWOC 2019 in the US, a group of scientists in the UK decided to organize a similar initiative as a “sister” event. The first Empowering Women in Organic Chemistry Europe took place on Thursday, June, 10, 2021, at AstraZeneca’s Macclesfield Site. In 2023, EWOC Europe will held an event aimed at enabling networking with industry, academia and women at different career stages, scientific presentations and motivational workshops on themes relevant to women and allies undertaking a career in Organic Chemistry on June 15, 2023, in Manchester.
